A Monkey Without Toes

So these are my Pal's socks, or rather this is my pal's sock. I have to find her measurements to make sure I don't go too far. I truly adore this yarn, looks like I will have a lot left out the one skein....I have to find the wrapper and see if the seller has any other colorways.

Replacement Yarn

After staring at the other sock that was messed up I decided not to frog it. My sister will gladly give the goofed up yarn over Monkey's socks a good home. So the Raspberry Fearless Fibers Monkey socks are going to go to my sis.
Here's the yarn that I decided to go with. It's another Fearless Fibers yarn called Kildare. It's greens with a small hint of yellow here and there. I was going to use them to make up Cookies Gothic Spire socks but I think they will work up great for my swap pals Monkey's. Hope she likes them. :~)

Monkey Disaster

I am 14 rounds from completing my first Monkey sock and I realize that I've been doing my YO's wrong. Don't ask how I've made it this long without finding out that I've done them wrong. I'm still beating my head against the wall over this. So now I'm going to have to rip out an almost whole sock out tonight *sigh*. There goes 7 days worth of work. :(

One Monkey Down and One Monkey to Go

I got one monkey done. Yeah!!! Love this yarn and pattern. I see I'm not the only one that loves this yarn. I saw it in a previous post and went - hey that looks familiar -it's Koigu P516. I knew this was a good yarn. This picture was a little washed out and light - I'll try to get a better one next time.

Monkey Items Found

I did it...I found the cutest monkey items to give with the socks when we swap! Hopefully, I'll be sending out my package soon to my secret pal. Knit On...

Round TWO Sign-ups Open

Sign-ups are open for Round #2 of the Monkey Sock Swap and will be open until April 15th. This second round will run from May 1 - June 15th.

Send me an email if you would like to sign up again! If you have any ideas on how to make the swap even more exciting I would welcome your ideas.

MYSTERY MONKEY SOCKS, Part 1, Cuff

All this thinking of monkeys and knitting Monkey Socks has made me want some good old traditional Monkey Socks!

I'm using yarn from my stash so this is actually a stash-buster sock. All yarn used is of fingering weight. If you have some white, red and grey yarn in your stash then come join me for the Monkey Mystery Sock. I would love the company. I'll be posting the directions every several days.

MYSTERY MONKEY SOCKS
Materials
red fingering weight yarn, 50 g
white fingering weight yarn, 50 g
grey fingering weight yarn, hopefully only 50g
Set of 5 US #1/2.25mm double-point needles
Directions
With red yarn CO 68 sts using Continental method.
Divide the sts evenly onto 4 needles (17 sts each needle). Join into a round being careful not to twist sts.
Work 7 rows of twisted rib (K1 tbl, p1) to end of round.
Change to white yarn and knit 1 row.
Work 14 rows of plain rib (K1, P1) to end of round.

Monkey Progress

I am so glad everyone is having so much fun. I heard from my Monkey Pal this morning and she has ALREADY mailed my package! Guess I need to knit a little faster.

I'm down to the heel of my Monkey Sock but I'm only showing a glimpse of it. This is such a fun sock to knit.

Started Another

Since this pattern works up so fast so I decided to start another Monkey sock. I'm using some Cherry Tree Hill from my stash. I picked it up from one of my LYS when my sister and I were out shopping.
Now I need to figure out which to give to my Monkey pal and which to keep for myself. :~)

Question on Yarn Weight and Monkeys

I need your honest opinion...these are my first Monkey Socks, and they're in Lorna's Laces (Purple Iris) in a sportweight...is this yarn too bulky for this pattern for my secret pal? Is it OK to use sportweight, or should I use a fingering? The gauge for the recipient is good, but if I should use a finer yarn, I will. My secret pal deserves my best! So please give this newbie Monkey Sock knitter your advice. P.S. Isn't this a fun pattern to knit? I love it!
Addendum on 3/27: Thanks for the advice, and I'll keep knitting these in the sportweight!

Much Better Pic

I've gotten 7 of the 11 repeats of the lace pattern and I'm really liking it. I just wanted to show you all the socks true color. The other night when I posted the picture it looked like a hot pink sock. I love this colorway, it's Raspberry from Fearless Fibers. I think I may buy some for my own Monkey socks. :~)
Hope everyone else is having a fun time knitting up their socks.

Monkey See, Monkey Knit

I am loving this pattern. The repeat is easy enough to memorize, but interesting enough that these socks are just flying off the needles. I'm using my standard two socks on two circulars technique. The yarn is Koigu KPPPM, color number P516. Next up: shopping for monkey stuff!

Ready to Start

I have finally finished up other UFO's and am ready to start my pal's Monkey Socks. This lovely Cherry Tree Hill Supersock is the yarn I have chosen for her. This yarn is soft and yummy and I just feel lke I'm in the Caribbean when I knit with it!

I don't know about all of you but I am having so much fun looking for monkey gifties! In fact, I'm having so much fun that I may have to run this Monkey Sock Swap one more time! All my little gifties are purchased and ready to go.
Keep up the great work, ladies! I enjoy reading all your posts and seeing glimpses of your knitting.
I posted to the blog , but , idiot that I am , I managed to put it in Madame Purl's comments. I am new to blogging , as you can guess , and probably a fair example of the old adage ' you can't teach an old dog new tricks ' .

A Cuff of Monkey

I'm loving this pattern. I am using Koigu. I think it's turning out fantastic. I hope my pal loves it.

Loving the pattern!

I am really enjoying this pattern. Here is my version. I am very thankful for my knitting group because they helped me decide on which yarn to use. It was a hard decision but I am happy with the one I chose. I hope my pal is too!

Blue monkey

I'm using JitterBug yarn for the first time. Hope it wears well. The colorway is called "Blue Parrot", and I love it...hope my pal does too!

mOnKeY sOcKs

Here is the beginning of the Monkey Sock...this yarn colorway is called Neopolitan and even after this small bit of knitting I am ever so happy to have purchased two skeins as I love it. All Monkey items and extra items have been procured. Just need to finish the socks and away she goes...The colors are very strawberry pink, chocolate brown, minty aqua. I am going to try an extreme closeup to show colors.

Start of the 1st Sock

I started the first sock tonight. I'm really liking this pattern. I can't seem to get a very good pic of this yarn. It's more purple then pink. The next time I post I'll get a shot in natural light. I just wanted to share with everyone. :~)

Posting

Hi All,
Just curious? Is it wrong or unacceptable to post a pic of sock in progress? I don't have much to post yet but would like to as the socks progress...I have two of my three monkey items already. Sooooo cool...

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

I have just turned the heel on the second sock , the pattern flows well and is easy to remember , I just may knit myself a pair . Why couldn't this be the 'cute and cuddly bunny or easter chick
sock swap ' ? I have been shopping today, looking for monkey items , bit thin on the ground, I think I will end up bartering at the zoo .

My First Monkey Sock

Hi Ladies,
I'm on repeat round #3 of the lace pattern/leg of my first ever Monkey sock...what a FUN pattern! I had no idea how much I'd enjoy it....in fact, I was a bit worried before I began, but it IS fun, and I hope my Monkey Pal will like the colorway that I chose for her!

Happy knitting,

Monkey Sock Resizing?

Hi Fellow Monkey-Knitters!

I am so excited to be part of this swap. However, I do have a question for those of you who've knit a few pairs of this wonderful pattern already...how do you best alter the pattern for those of us with big feet? For example, my ducky feet are 9.5 in wide and 10 in around ankle, and 1o in. long. Is an extra pattern repeat the answer? or extra hidden stitches? Your advice is greatly appreciated as I hope to cast on my Monkeys this weekend as we're snowed in tonight here in New England. Yahoo for snow days!

Kris in NH
Have already begun my monkey swap socks with much enthusiasm. Since I am on my last real day of Spring Break, I guess I'd better knit like crazy over the weekend! I've enjoyed reading the blogs of other monkey participants, and may ask some of you for advice on blogs, since I am just a beginner. Lynn

Phew, just got in before the deadline. I am looking forward to knitting this pattern, isn't it strange how you will knit patterns to gift and plain ones for yourself ?

My first ever

I'm so excited to be joining this group. It's my first group ever, and what a way to start since I love socks and I dig me some monkeys. I think I had a Monkeys (the singing group) lunch box when I was in grade school, but that's giving away my age.

Monkey Business

Hello Monkey Pals!

I will be emailing each of you a swap questionnaire tomorrow asking for your sock size, color preferences, mailing addresses etc. Please fill it out and send it back to me for the sign-ups close on Wednesday. I will then assign secret Monkey Pals that you can contact anonymously and the spoiling will begin. When you receive your Monkey Pal you will also receive their completed questionnaire.
Just a few more days......................

Thanks, Rebecca!

I love this idea, Rebecca. It's going to be so much fun hunting down monkey-related goodies, and of course the socknitting will be great too! I haven't knit this pattern yet, but I've been thinking about it. This swap will be the perfect reason to indulge. ;)
