What can I say? I like both of them. These are prewashing/preblocking pictures, and the color isn't quite right on either. In each case, the colors are deeper, richer, and more varied than is shown. The red, especially, is off as it has more berry tones to it and is a little less of a retina burner -- well, just a little less.
I'm leaning towards the blue, but that might be because crazy variegation isn't my thing. However, as far as that goes, the red yarn works really well. I'm also very pleased that there's no major pooling or flashing in either case since that's what turns me off some variegated yarns.
So does anyone out there have any thoughts on this? Hey, you never know, you just might be selecting your own socks!

Love 'em both but as I'm a brighter the better girl I say the red!

Tough call... I like both of them. If they are for me :), I prefer the red ones.
They are both gorgeous!! I'd happily wear either pair, and on crazy days I'd consider that a pair :-) Which one do YOU like better?? Won't one pair be yours??

I love the blue/purple ones! I also like the red ones as well, but I'm leaning towards the blue/purple because they look very similar to the monkey socks I made for myself out of Panda Cotton's blueberries-grapes colourway. Both are beautiful, your monkey swap partner is a lucky person to get either :-)

Thanks to everyone for piping in. It's a near split, and I AM happy to hear that so many of you like the red because it looks like that's what it will be. Until I'd cast on for the second sock, I'd forgotten that the blue dye was staining my hands a bit. I then washed the sock, and there was a lot of blue in the sink. I think I'll play it safe and send the red, which is quite colorfast, and spare my pal fears that she is turning into a Smurf.
Typically I like blue, but those red ones are gorgeous!
