question

The pattern says to knit the foot
until work measures approx. 1.5 inches less than desired length, ending with Row
1, 10, or 11 of Lace Pattern.
I've ended with row 1 and the foot measures 7.5 inches. My pals foot length is 9.5 inches. If I do another half an inch of knitting I wont be able to end with row 1, 10 or 11. Should I just go for it and risk a slightly longer than my pals measurements sock or start the toe decrease now and risk a slightly smaller than pals measurements sock? Or Knit till I get the 8 inches (1.5 inches less than desire length) even if it means not ending on Row 1, 10, or 11?

That depends on how stretchy the yarn is... if there is stretch I would rather risk having it be a little too short rather than end up baggy.

You might want to ask your pal if she/he prefers a snug or a looser fit sock?

I would go for a little bigger,it is more comfortable than tight, also you might want to alter the pattern and end on a different row, just make sure you do the same on the other side and then they will fit her perfect :-):-)

You can knit half an inch of plain stockinette and then start the toe.

I would suggest you consult with your pal first before making a final decision.

I had the same thing happen with the socks I am knitting. I just did the last half inch in plain stockinette before doing the toe decreases.

I had the same problem - I worked an extra pattern repeat & now the sock seems monstrously long. So - looks like I'm going to rip out toe & use only a partial repeat. I'm using Sockotta yarn - seems pretty stretchy. Great question - thanks for the comments - they answered my questions too!
